I was once told every woman (and man) should have a "signature scent" -- meaning one specific perfume or cologne that when smelled by others, it evokes positive memories of that person. Its supposedly also a great way for a lover to recall memories when smelling that scent. I personally have always loved the idea of having a signature scent (I am a creature of habit at times) yet, I also like to switch things up at times. If I had to pick one scent as my signature, I think most of my friends, family and D would identify me by Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel. Even if they didn't know the name of the exact perfume, they would know it when they smelled it. They do say scent is the strongest sense tied to memory right? On top of that, Oh, Lola! by Marc Jacobs comes in as my close second favorite.
And lastly, I do like to switch up scents for summer to "lighten" things up -- and Eternity Summer by Calvin Klein is my favorite not only because it never disappoints, but also because Calvin Klein comes out with a different scent every summer with a different bottle. I've been collecting them for a few years now (I think I have 3 or 4 bottles) and what's cool about this is I switch them up all summer long, and the scents bring me back to that specific summer. Mmmmm.... summer 2011 was one of my personal favorites!
I also heard this really cool idea for any ladies who are engaged or planning to get married. What you can do is buy a brand new perfume for your wedding day that you've never worn, and your future hubby has never smelled on you. Wear it on your wedding day, your honeymoon, and about a few months straight after getting married during your blissful first months as newlyweds. Now the scent has been officially tied for both of you to wonderful memories as love birds. Then moving forward make this a "signature special scent" that you wear on special occasions like anniversaries, birthday, date nights, or any other romantic rendezvous. Voila! Instant happy memories.
How amazing is that idea??
As for the men....
Here are the scents D wears and switches up. Curve was the scent he wore when I met him. Yes, some people look at Curve as a teenager cologne, you know, the starter one boys wore in high school and college. But I just don't care. I love the scent and when I smell it I think of him! So this one is a keeper and in constant rotation. The first gift I ever bought him was Armani Mania and I really went out on a limb with this one because I had no idea if he would like it, and that early into the relationship (I wanna say 3 months?) Cologne can be kind of an intimate gift and could freak guys out, so tread with caution! Luckily it worked out well and he loved it. It just smells like him so I went for it.
Bleu De Chanel is another one of his favorites that I picked out for him as a Christmas gift one year. This one is a woody fragrance that is clean and masculine all wrapped up in one. If you're looking for a new scent for your man, I'm convinced most women and men would enjoy this scent. And it's Chanel, and Ms. Coco herself rarely does anything wrong. Lastly, I got D on the Eternity Summer band wagon because why not? Summers are meant to be remembered.

So the whole reason I wrote this post is that I'm shopping around for a new "signature scent" to add to my collection, but I'm overwhelmed by all the scents out there -- there's just too many to choose from!! I also have to mention that I secretly wear these scents too, and get compliments ALL THE TIME, but am usually too embarrassed to share it. Welp, I guess the secrets out now!
So what scents are you currently wearing, and do you have any recommendations for me?
Hope you all have a lovely day!

My go-to is chance by chanel most days. I also really like Marc Jabob's dot and daisy scents. I haven't actually committed to one but I may or may not get a little sample of each whenever I head to the mall. I'm still debating which one I want to buy for real (dot is currently winning).
ReplyDeleteDuring travel I get nervous that one of my favorites will break (happened :( ) so I bring some that are easy on the wallet instead. Body by Victoria or one of my philosophy scents(field of flowers and amazing grace are my favs). All are easy feel good spritzers for any day.
I love fresh scents. I don't have a signature scent I usually just wear whatever fragrance I get as a gift. I'm currently wearing Bermuda blue-Nautica. One scent I really liked was Carolina Herrera On ice 212
ReplyDeleteMy mom bought me Clinique Happy Heart for my wedding, I still wear it throughout the year, but mostly in spring/summer/fall.
ReplyDeleteI've worn Estee Lauder Beautiful every winter for many years.
I am really sensitive to smells so I rarely wear perfume. Most of them usually give me a headache by the end of the day, even if I only put on a tiny amount. My hubby wears Echo by Davidoff.

I have two - Chanel Chance and Salvatore Ferragamo Attimo l'eau florale. I had worn Chance since if first came out, but so many people I know started wearing it that I switched. (I like having my own scent) Attimo is not as popular so I kind of prefer that now. I also really like Tocca Stella.

ReplyDeleteI mostly wear Juicy Couture Viva la Fleur, but I have a huuuuge collection of samples that I'm always switching around with. I've heard the idea of having a wedding perfume too and it's something I definitely want to do. My mom always had a signature scent for special occasions and I loved the idea.

Such a great idea for a wedding day. Vow renewal now needed for this idea alone! (Oh, and so I can rock a new dress!)
ReplyDeleteI am one of those people that always forgets to spray on some perfume. I think this may inspire me to sniff out a new scent, and actually wear it!
Tiks and my favorite is Hi-Karate
ReplyDeleteI wore that Chanel scent in college and although I no longer wear it my friends still say it reminds them of me when they smell it. The hubs just bought Chanel Blue and YUM it smells so good!! My signature scent is Burberry I am continually complimented on it!
ReplyDeletethat's a cute idea about a "marriage" scent! I know my husband definitely loves the scent I used to wear when we first started dating

I could never choose only one perfume. I have many of them, and it depends on my mood and the occasion which one I use. One of them is Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel as well. :)

I love the idea about wearing a new scent when you get married; that's such a sweet idea! As for a signature scent, I don't have one yet. I'm in that strange transition from being a young adult to a 'responsible, adult woman' so I'm trying to find a sophisticated, lovely scent. I'll have to go test all the one's everyone has recommended! (:

I don't think you need a new signature scent but I also know you will do what you want so I'll be looking "smelling" out for it!!
ReplyDeleteLooking amazing . Feeling inspired after seeing your post .
