For those of you who are brave enough to go out on that hectic Friday after Thanksgiving known as Black Friday (FYI: I am not one of those people!) you'll need to wear a strategic outfit. To prevent that shopping burnout which includes tired feet, hot and cold flashes from the mix of winter weather and hot heated stores, and of course those hunger pains that send you straight to the food court, you'll need to plan accordingly. Here's what I think is the perfect Black Friday outfit to make the most of your shopping trip on that hectic day...
| Details |
Brown cardigan / Topshop legging / Tory burch bootie / Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag / AllSaints slouch beanie / Essie nail polish
1. Layers! Like I mentioned before, your temperature will always be changing from hot to cold to comfortable, so make sure you're wearing layers to adjust accordingly. This adorable cardigan is perfect. And cozy enough to wear you can leave your coat in the car if you're shopping in a mall.
2. Leggings (or other stretchy pants): You just ate a huge Thanksgiving dinner, so let's be a little forgiving to ourselves. Comfy pants are a must! Also if you're doing a little shopping for yourself (no shame in your game) you'll want clothes that are super easy to take off and on in the dressing rooms.
3. Cross body bag: Easier for your shoulders and most comfortable when walking around (in my opinion)
4. Flat booties: it always blew my mind when I saw women shopping in heels. I mean I know it looks nice but really? Is that realistic? Are you even as all comfortable? If my feet hurt that means my shopping trip is getting cut short. If you want to make it thru the day, wear flat boots, booties or flats. Your feet are your friends!
5. Snacks: I can't stress this one enough! If you're anything like me, when you get hungry you get grumpy. Or hangry as some people say (a mix of hungry and angry!) So to avoid the mood swings of hunger and the dropping blood sugar that will send you running to the food court for a big, fat burrito....bring your own snacks to take the edge off. My picks? A granola bar (I like Kind Bars), 100 calorie nut packs, or a piece of fruit like an apple or banana.
6. Hydration: Or caffienation....whichever you fancy! I always have a water bottle with me when I shop, and occasionally I'll treat myself to a hot tea or coffee (depending on my mood). Either way, stay hydrated to get the most of your shopping experience.
So what's your favorite outfit to wear when you go shopping?
Do you have any other helpful tips for a long day of shopping?
And are you braving the stores on Black Friday?
Haha I am so glad you posted this!! I strategically plan my outfit too! Great post!

Planning outfits ahead of time make dressing so much less stressful doesn't it? Thanks for the comments Angela! xo
DeleteI definitely plan my shopping outfits based on how easy my dressing room experience will be. I don't want to dread taking my shoes and pants on and off in different stores- it just takes the fun out of it! I've also been hunting for a white beanie. Wish this one wasn't $68. womp womp.
ReplyDeletesame here! that's why stretchy leggings and boots you can pull on and off are a must! shirts and pants with all kinds of buttons and zippers - ain't nobody got time for that!!
DeleteI love this! Caffeine and snacks are definitely a must! What a great way to look cute and be comfy (the main priority on Black Friday) at the same time!

caffeine and snacks are so essential! Otherwise you'll end up spending $20 alone on food in the food court. wahhh! Thanks for the comments Amy : )
Deletehaha this is genius, god knows i'm always under dressed black Friday shopping when its freezing cold in NYC, either that or i am lugging too many heavy things like my purse for one :) love this.
ReplyDeletehey you do what you gotta do right? Shopping in NYC is tough -- I did that last weekend and D and I were regretting all of our purchases b/c we didn't think of all the bags we had to carry!
DeleteI won't be braving the stores either...no thanks! A cute and comfy outfit is a must though!

Uncommon Goods Giveaway!
I've worked it before when I used to work in retail as a teen and its no beuno! And I think I went shopping once and had a panic attack from all the crowds hahaha. I'll be getting the Xmas tree and visiting my grandparents. Maybe stopping for a nice lunch. That's the day I'm looking forward to : )
DeleteI have no desire EVER to deal with Black Friday - BUT I will say this is the best survival guide and gear list I've ever read!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a slave to gum - so I would say make sure with the snacks you have some gum to eat. (I feel like it helps a bit to be less thirsty).
And most importantly bring PATIENCE and a great attitude. I am sure you run into some real winners during these sales, it's best to take the high road - and be friendly to the workers who are stuck there ( some volunteer but I bet there were a few stuck with that shift. Spread holiday cheer!!!
And remember... once you're done - you can go hang and eat and maybe even have a beer. That would be my plan :)
Thanks Kelly! I'm with you - I love a great deal but its just not worth it to deal with the mass of crowds and the hustle and bustle overload. That's why we have cyber Monday! And I'm with you on having that beer -- I should have included it in this outfit ; )
DeleteLove these picks for fall.

yeah standing in those lines that wrap around the store and out the door are the WORST! that's when I say to myself , "ehhh I didn't want this sweater THAT bad" and usually give up! hahaha
DeleteFor someone who doesn't shop Black Friday, you have great tips for those who do! I agree with the layers and ease. Also, I NEVER leave home without a water bottle and a snack!

Thanks AJ! These are pretty much the same tips I use any time I go shopping, especially if I know it will be a long shopping trip and I need to maintain my energy and stamina. Otherwise shopping will turn into a miserable experience! haha
DeleteHilarious!! You definitely need snacks- Black Friday is not for the faint of heart!
