Date Night!

D and I have decided to take the idea of "Date Night" to a whole new {and fun} level. With the hustle and bustle of jobs, internships, finishing up grad school {for me} it's easy to forget about the ones you love, and neglecting spending some quality time with each other. These days our date nights usually have us cuddling on the couch with a glass of wine and a movie {which don't get me wrong, I LOVE} but it can get predictable and boring.
So once we felt ourselves growing a little stale, we decided to institute "The Monthly Date Night" in which each of us would have to choose one day out of the month {two total per month}, and plan a fun and creative date for both of us to enjoy. Dates could range anywhere from something simple like going bowling {the place where D and I met : )} to being whisked away for the weekend on a whim -- and everything in between. So far since we have started our date night rule last month, D has taken me to Buddakann in NYC for the night, and I've taken him to for a couple's massage at this salon.

For the month of March, I was the first to ask my baby on a date and decided to take our love our sushi to a new level by making our own! I gave D this Sushi with Style book and gift set I found here. And he loved the idea! Looks like this weekend we're going to hit the grocery store for our ingredients {crab meat, avocados, cucumbers, shrimp} and maybe even attempt to recreate that spicy mayo.
My hopes for our first sushi adventure are to to have a presentation that looks like this:
but will probably in reality end up looking like this:
We'll be making our sushi this weekend and I'll be sure to post some pics! Has anyone else tried making sushi and have stories or tips to share? Or has anyone implemented a couples date night and have fun/creative date night ideas they could share?

Also - my weekend with the bridal shower I was planning went fantastic. I haven't had a chance to upload the pictures yet and give a weekend recap but I'll be sure to do so tomorrow. Hope everyone has a happy Monday : )

  1. This date night idea has really brought so much more fun and romance into our lives. Although it did already exist, it has brought the surprise, spontaneity and excitement back into our daily lives. I have felt like I am courting her all over again and with ideas for the next date stirring, it has given me the old butterflies and giddy feeling I have always had with her.

  2. I so agree about date nights! I have two boys (3 years old and 5 months old) and my husband and I cherish our date nights. Sometimes it isn't practical to go out so we will do a fondu night. We bought a fondu pot at Bed Bath and Beyond and we will get beef tenderloin and cook it in the pot. My mother in law gave me a good dipping sauce that is perfect with the beef. We have some wine and just enjoy a long dinner (after the kids have gone to bed).

    1. Thanks for the comments Amy! And I love your idea of a fondu night! There's something about dipping little things into either melted cheese or chocolate sauce that really ups the fun factor so I'll be sure to try this one! Can you suggest a good and reasonably priced fondu pot?

  3. That's such a cute idea having each of you plan a date every month. My boyfriend and I like to have date nights too and it usually involves us going to dinner and a movie - so this has inspired me to get more creative with our dates! Thanks!

  4. Hi Pretty Little Things-I just started checking out your blog and I LOVE it!! I am down in MD and my boyfriend of 2 years and I are always looking for fun things to do (dinner and wine is great so fast easy meals are always appreciated.) We are coming up to NYC in 2 weeks so I was hoping you could tell me what might be some fun things to do and nice places to go. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance and keep sending me the great ideas!
