Deep down I want to be fashionable and trendy but sometimes I think I'm too much of a scardy cat to go out of my comfort zone and try something new. One of those trends I've been thinking about is {colored jeans}. It seems like this spring they are all the rage, and when I see other women rockin' the look they always look so awesome. I just don't think I can pull off something like that.....sigh.
What am I so scared of? These all look so cute. Maybe I'm afraid I'll look like a clown, trying to play dress up. When in reality I'll be a walking fashion DON'T.
Anyway--I've been looking around for colored pants inspiration photos of women who are pulling it off and here's what I've found:
Nicky Hilton in red. I like this because she's pairing it with black, leather, and leopard with give it that tough girl/cool kinda look.
Here Cameron Diaz does a cute pinky-peach with a khaki blazer. A little more subdued...I could do this!
This is Lauren Conrad's collection for Kohl's. These reddish-coral ones are adorable too.
Ok, even Princess Kate is doing it. And she always looks classy in EVERYTHING she wears. I'm starting to feel less scared.
Here's an image from J.Crew, which also features my favorite necklace ever. Which I finally wore today for the first time, and got four compliments on -- winning!
Another image from J.Crew. This was the look I was going for with the striped shirt and hot pink pants. I also like the leopard clutch that gives this outfit a little pop!
So with that being said, I went shopping yesterday and tried to recreate this outfit -- and this is what I came up with:
Please don't mind my messy hair : ) Here I'm trying on a few pieces in the LOFT dressing room. The sweater and pants can be found here:
Then I tried it on with my lovely J.Crew Bubble Necklace that D got my for Valentine's Day. What do you think? Which one looks better, if at all? Is this a fashion success or failure?
I'm sad to say that I ended up not getting the pants -- I was still too nervous to leave my comfort zone. However, I did buy the sweater and plan to pair it with my black skinny jeans for work {boring}
What are your thoughts on bright colors jeans and pants? Does it take confidence to rock these? Are they totally your style or do you pass on this trend?

I had the same thoughts as you ... I was scared that I wouldn't be able to pull them off, but I broke down and tried a pair from F21, and surprisingly, they worked! I love those hot pink pants on you and think you should re-consider! I also now have an outfit inspiration for tomorrow. AND I think I just need to break down and buy that necklace already ... it's tempting me from everywhere!
ReplyDeleteWhat color did you go for? I can't decide what color should be my first purchase!
Deleteand ps. I'm obsessed with this necklace - I feel like it goes with everything! : )
I bought a teal-ish pair from F21, and just got another hot pink pair from Target today. Out.of.control. ;) I feel like they really are a stretch for me ... I tend to be pretty shy about trying really "trendy" things, but what's nice is that you can keep things simple up top so the pants aren't too much. Let me know what you end up going with!
DeleteI didn't even think of checking out Target -- totally going there this weekend! Thanks for the suggestions!
DeleteI've been wanting to try some fun colored jeans too. I just haven't got around to finding any I really like yet.

Same here Erica! What stores do you usually shop at?
DeleteI think you can wear whatever you want to!! I try to live by the "who cares what people think about my clothes" idea. You only live once and other people's opinions don't matter. You can totally rock a pair of bright pants. :)

Thanks Amy! And in theory I agree with you - I want to wear whatever I want, but then I always chicken out and go for something safe at the last minute! Do you rock the bright colored pants?
DeleteMy friend is a designer for JBrand and he keeps me in samples!!! Last summer he gave me three pairs of the brightest jeans ever - BEFORE they hit the stores! I know what you are going through because I felt the same way at first - and I tend to walk to the beat of my own drum when it comes to fashion. And I love color. But these just felt crazy-bright and I wasn't sure if they were tacky or cool. Anyway, I wore them and fell in love and now there's no going back!
ReplyDeleteI say take the plunge! You can keep it simple on top. The nude color looks great with red and it's not risky at all... Love your bubble necklace btw! You are young and now's the time to have fun (but I gotta tell you, I bought my mom a pair of red ones from the Gap for her B-day and she's about to turn 69 - if she can pull it off, and she's pretty cool, so can you!)

That is AMAZING you get hooked up with samples from JBrand -- so jealous!
DeleteAnd that's so cute your mom is wearing red ones - I bet she looks really cute : )
Definitely feeling the colored jeans! Great post.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely loving this trend - and you look totally cute in those purple/fuschia pants - go back and get them :)

Thanks Annie! With all the positive feedback I'm tempted to go back and get them!
DeleteNow I just need to see if I can pull this off at work : )
Have you considered doing a pair that isn't so bright? Maybe a coral color or pale turquoise? Anyway, LOVE the JCrew necklace!! Need. it. now. :)
