cleanse & detox

What am I doing this weekend? Well thanks for asking! Actually D and I are going to be doing a weekend cleanse and detox. Yup, you heard that right! So basically here is what's going to happen. I've been wanting to "kick-start" a healthy lifestyle lately (which has been so hard for me the past few months because I am in my "busy season" at work -- which means a lot of late nights and eating convenience food on the go) so I feel like it's showing in my waist line. Not ok. Enter the cleanse and detox weekend. I picked up this book "Look Better Naked" by the editors of Women's Health magazine which gives you a six week plan to basically look, well hot! This begins with a weekend to cleanse your body of all the yummy not-so-good-for-you things to start with a clean slate so to speak.
In a nut shell, the 2-Day Cleanse looks a little something like this:

Breakfast:
Light shake
Blend 1 cup fat-free (soy, almond, rice or hemp) milk
1 cup berries
1tsp peanut butter or flax seed oil
1 cup ice

Snack:
1 cup sliced cucumbers
1 cup green tea

Lunch:
steamed or raw greens (romaine, spinach, mesclun, arugula, kale etc.)
4 oz. lean protein (white meat chicken, firm tofu or fish)
2 tsp oil (olive, sunflower or walnut)

Snack:
10 asparagus spears, blanched
1 cup green tea

Dinner:
same as lunch

Yeah, to some this might look like their regular food plan. But to me, this looks meager and challenging. The shake I know I'll be able to do because I've been drinking breakfast smoothies for the past few weeks and I'm totally down with it! The nice thing with this plan is we are allowed to add spices and fresh herbs to make the meals more appetizing. For example, I think I'm going to add a little vinegar and and fresh dill to make a cold cucumber salad -- that's more flavorful right? We are also allowed 2tsp of oil with both lunch and dinner to use how we want. I'm thinking of mixing that with some balsamic vinegar to make a vinaigrette and fresh herbs to make a dressing for my fresh greens. Lastly, I'm trying to think about how to liven up that meat since we are only allowed to bake or broil it. I'm thinking chicken could be marinated in fresh lemon juice and cracked black pepper. And fish I could experiment with some spices and use a rub. But let me tell, this is going to be quite the challenge....
I'm hoping I feel energized and revitalized after this. Otherwise right now I'm having visions of D and I extremely grumpy and irritable because we're hangry (angry because you're hungry) and end up turning on each other in our starvation state! Haha ok maybe I am being a little dramatic -- but truth be told, we've both been known for getting moody when we're hungry. Hope we make it out of this alive and well!
We're going to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods tonight (crazy kids we are) to prepare for the weekend  and to kick-start the next 6 weeks of healthy eating (which I'll be sharing on the blog next week). Wish us luck and I'll let know how I'm feeling on Monday!
yup, pretty much.

Has anyone else ever done a detox and cleanse, and if so how did it go??
Needing words of encourage here....

Wish me luck!

Pretty Little Photos

As promised from your feedback in{this post}, I want to share more about my personal life with you all. Here are some pics of my life lately --  busy, busy, busy. But mostly all fun stuff so I really can't complain. First off,   D and I were able to go to our first NY Rangers game together. He is a huge fan, and I'm just getting into hockey, but love all NY sports so I was pumped, clearly, to get into something new. I have to thank one of the readers of Pretty Little Things, we'll call her C, for reaching out to me with this amazing opportunity to see the Rangers play and to sit up in our own suite-box. So amazing, and thank you again C for the tickets! xo
1. Us waiting for the bus into the city. 2. practice on the ice before the game. 3. Eating my foot long hot dog. Don't judge. Even if you are only allowed to have 4 hot dogs a year, I think I met my quota that night! : )
4. C game to visit us during the game 5. more rink photos 6. pic from the outside of MSG
more random shots.
best seats in the place by far! and rocking out our new NYR gear we picked up in the souvenir store.
even though the Rangers lost (in a shoot out) it was still one of the coolest experiences and you'll definitely see me watching more hockey in the future!
other random shots include D and my obsession with rubber ducks. It started as a game that went on for about a year of hiding them in each others stuff and now it just a full out duck addiction.
you can never go wrong with a Panera lunch with your mom. It's one of my favorite things!
when you don't have dye for your Easter eggs have no fear -- use Sharpies!
I have a set of 30 different colored sharpie markers {I'm a doodler at heart}so I had a field day with these.
the contents of my basket from mom the easter bunny.
My favorite is the hello kitty which is really an egg with some loot inside ; )
love my easter bunny!
And on to D's birthday weekend. Complete with festive chalkboard of course.
First stop, birthday brunch.
mini shot of fresh squeezed oj. I got the Caprese frittata and D got the steak and eggs.
This place in Hoboken called Anthony David's might be our new favorite place.
After brunch it was shopping for D to get a new birthday suit. Literally.
I have to say he looked quite handsome in his suit and tie! Very JT of him!
a little birthday wish.
 random shots of the night.
me and the birthday boy! xo
and the next day it was a loungy, recuperating kinda day. I'm catching some nap time with the little one.
One of my favorite things to do!

Welp, that's whats been going on with me. Anything new and exciting in your life?

Hope you all have a lovely day enjoying the nice weather!

spring chic.

The weather has finally reached 70 this week and I think I can officially say I have spring fever now. The warm air and fresh smell of flowers is intoxicating and I just don't want to be inside anymore. I mean can you blame us? Is it me, or was this winter particularly colder and longer than usual? Anyway, if I had somewhere fab to go, or a reason to dress up, this is what I would be wearing. Complete with floral prints, crisp whites, bright statement necklaces and pops of coral on my nails. This outfit needs to get in my closet immediately.spring chic.

How to recreate this look for yourself:

peplum top // floral skirt // nude heels (similar) //  CÉLINE brown handbag // statement necklace // bangle  // sunglasses // coral nail polish

Happy Spring everyone -- it's finally here!!

spring florals.

Dare I say spring has finally made it's way to Jersey? It looks like all this week it's going to be in the 70's and I am pumped. I think everyone around me can agree that this was a long and hard winter so we are all itching to get outside. Even this past weekend, it was so funny to see everyone in Hoboken eating outside in all the street cafes when it was only 50 degrees and pretty chilly. I think we all are just desperate to get out of the house and get some fresh air.
How's the weather near you?
